All parent volunteers must complete VIRTUS Training through the Archdiocese of Chicago. The main purpose of the Virtus Training Program is to teach each individual involved with the school or parish to recognize and prevent child sexual abuse. All parent volunteers who are in contact with children (it doesn’t matter if you are chaperoning a field trip or serving hot dogs at a barbeque) will need to participate in one VIRTUS Training Program session.
Each year, on-site VIRTUS training is offered at St. Mary of the Angels School. Please view the school calendar for upcoming dates. If you are unable to attend the SMA training session(s), you can visit www.virtus.org, for other training dates and locations throughout the Archdiocese.
We would like to thank all of our returning families who have completed their VIRTUS training. If you have already attended a session you are not required to attend another. However, if you have not already done so, please submit your VIRTUS certificate to the main office as soon as possible and be sure to complete the remaining steps listed below.
All parents who will be volunteering at children & family events or field trips must complete the following and turn it into the school office.
- VIRTUS training completion certificate, active account, completion of periodic training updates
- Code of Conduct Form
- CANTS form for DCFS
Information for how to complete these steps can be found at www.archchicago.org under the Protecting Children link. If you have any questions about completing volunteer requirements at SMA, contact Ms. Debbie Serafini-Smith, email@example.com.
